Evoenergy is inviting locals to come on a site walk this Tuesday to see where it plans to lay down new underground cables through Ainslie, Reid and Campbell.
The company wants to let us know about its planned upgrade of our local electrical network which it says will increase capacity and support future growth for homes and businesses connected to the City East Zone Substation. It says the project will help support future energy needs, such as new developments, electric vehicles, and all-electric homes.

The upgrade involves installing a new underground 11kV feeder, comprising buried cables that will travel through Ainslie, Reid and Campbell. It will carry electricity from the Zone Substation to surrounding suburbs, increasing capacity and helping to ensure a reliable and safe power supply.
Evoenergy plans to lodge its development application with the ACT Government to do this work before the end of this year, and if approved wants to start and finish the work by mid-2027.
Better consultation than from Indara
It’s good to see the Evoenergy company taking the time and effort to consult with local residents about their infrastructure plans. So far, their efforts to understand the views and concerns of local residents are in sharp contrast to the way the care-less Sydney-based Indara company went about building a telecommunications tower in Ainslie this year. In the lead up to its development application to place a 29-metre tower on a highly-visible, much-loved grasslands area, Indara held no face-to-meetings with any local residents, consulting only with ‘large players’ such as the nearby Doma developers, the War Memorial and the Mecure Hotel.
